You are likely ready for a challenge. If not today then by January 1st you will definitely be ready. Especially this January due to the craziness of 2020.
When considering a challenge I want to highlight that 98% of them do not work if they do not include the following three areas.
#1. Community Support
#2. Accountability
#3. Specific Exercise and Nutrition Plan
I have been helping people lose weight and get in shape for almost 20 years and these three things are the key ingredients to nearly guaranteeing success.
Here is what to look for in each of these areas before committing to a challenge this new year.
Community Support – you should frequently meet with a group of people who are gathering for similar goals as you. This will prevent you from feeling alone and isolated in this endeavor. You will also look forward to the interaction with these people. They will become friends and you will encourage one another.
Accountability – you should be accountable to someone for your actions. This person needs to know exactly what you are struggling with and should hold you accountable through the form of checking in daily. You should also report your progress to this person. They need to have experience in the areas you need help with. Do not ask someone to hold you accountable who is currently struggling in the same areas as you. They should serve as a coach and challenge you to overcome these struggles. If they are currently struggling in the same areas as you this will be difficult for them to do.
Specific Plan – you need a specific plan to follow. Both for exercise and nutrition. This should tell you exactly what to do and leave you with zero guessing for yourself. The plan should meet you where you are today and be specific towards your goal.
Be sure to look for these three things when choosing a new years challenge or program. If you need help in any of these areas let me know.
