One of my favorite movies of all time is Rocky. I have seen them all. I actually have seen them all several times. Ever since I was a kid I loved watching the Rocky movies.
Each time I watch any of the Rocky movies I still get into each movie as if it was the first time I was watching the movie. Now I get to share in the experience with my kids and they love Rocky just as much as I do 🙂
I want to briefly tell you why I love Rocky today and how I believe it will inspire you on your fitness journey.
Your fitness journey can feel like one of Rocky’s hardest fights.
When you get started with a new diet or exercise program you will get knocked down. There’s no doubt about it.
Getting knocked down is part of life. I love what Rocky tells his son in the sixth Rocky movie, Rocky Balboa:
“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!”
I don’t know about you but just reading got me fired up! It’s packed with motivation. Especially when you read it in Rocky’s voice 🙂
Working out could be one of your greatest opponents in life. You will get knocked down countless times. Sometimes you will look emotionally as bad as Rocky does physically. But you must keep fighting. Exercise will make you a better version of yourself in multiple areas of your life. It will also positively impact your quality of life as you age.
Nutrition will very likely be one of your greatest opponents. This is like the Ivan Drago of your life. Big, strong and deadly. All of you Rocky fans know who I am talking about. In case you were wondering Rocky IV is my favorite Rocky movie.
Nutrition will take you down daily. The candy in the candy jar at the office is a punch to the face. The chips and salsa at lunch will hit you so hard it knocks you down. And the glass of wine in the evening will knock you down permanently for the TKO.
But remember Rocky’s words, “it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!”
That’s enough Rocky for today but I have some more Rocky motivation coming in a couple days. On Wednesday I will share a 10 minute pep talk podcast with you about Rocky and it is packed with motivation so you don’t want to miss it.
