If you missed the first or second email I sent on mindset I encourage you to go read them.

I am going to start this final email on mindset with two quotes that embody all that I am going to unpack today.

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t–you’re right.”  ~Henry Ford

“Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” ~Napoleon Hill.

A little background on me.

I was raised in an environment that taught me to respect and use the power of my mind. My dad has been pouring this wisdom into me for as long as I can remember. He would tell me to think positive and to be aware of my thought life.

As a kid I didn’t fully understand everything my dad was sharing with me. Little did I know that my dad was instilling a way of thinking in me that is in line with the quotes above by Henry Ford and Napoleon Hill.

Reticular Activating System (RAS)

Have you ever heard of your reticular activating system or RAS for short? This is your brains way of showing you what you have identified as important. For example, when you tell your brain that you want a new car of a particular make and model what happens? Let me guess, you see that car everywhere. That is your RAS in action.

We can use this incredible operating system to help you reach your goals. Start by writing a specific goal down. Read it out loud and then write down how this goal will benefit your life. This could be a paragraph or a couple of sentences. Next read this paragraph loud everyday for 30 days. To amplify this goal read it out loud three times per day and one of those times to someone you trust and consider a close friend.

I will also add to this that most people are already using the RAS however it is negatively impacting their life. They say things like I am so tired, I hate working out, I will never be able to do that, I can’t lose weight, etc. These statements become their reality.

Be very careful what you focus on.

The more proof you see the stronger your belief that it is true. Then the more likely you are to tell yourself it! Your belief turns into your self talk which then turns into your proof which turns into your belief and around and around it goes.

So set your RAS to look for the positives. Then your RAS will start to show you things to prove that your new belief is TRUE for you. The same way it looks for vehicles that you deem as important.
